The Secretary General of the Arab Islamic Council, Mohamad Ali El Husseini, welcomed the decision of the European Commission to appoint a special coordinator to combat hatred against Muslims.
In today's statement, I hope that this important step will bear fruit by putting an end to the wave of hatred and extremism represented by the burning and desecration of the Holy Qur’an in a number of European cities on repeated occasions, as it is a phenomenon strange to Europe, which has multiple, religiously and culturally diverse societies, in which Muslims have always coexisted with others in security and peace.
El Husseini called on the newly appointed European Coordinator for Combating Hatred against Muslims to make strenuous efforts to eradicate the phenomenon of religious extremism against Islam in Europe.
He also invited her to communicate with him to inform her of his knowledge and his long experience in approaching European-Islamic relations on the basis of Islamic values that urge acceptance of the other and respect for his beliefs.
